The basic Four Roses is in the middle of the pack, and the Single Barrel is in the top third.

There’s not a lot in the nose for this one. It smells, well, clean, with some hints of apple. In the mouth, I get corn and some bitterness, with a bitter aftertaste. There’s little to no burn going down.

This is a reasonable bourbon, but not particularly distinctive or remarkable. I’m not sure what’s up with the “small batch” as this one feels like a well-executed standard. I guess I wanted something to stand out, and this one really doesn’t. It seems mass-produced and ordinary. Sorry, Four Roses fans.

Two stars.

The updated rankings:

Blanton’s Gold Edition

Smooth Ambler Old Scout 7

Noah’s Mill

Bulleit

Elijah Craig

Evan Williams

Jefferson’s Reserve

Four Roses Single Barrel

Four Roses Small Batch

FEW

Booker’s 7 Year

Evan Williams Single Barrel Vintage 2004

Jefferson’s

Four Roses

Smooth Ambler Old Scout 9 Year Old Bourbon (Cask 1868) Single Barrel Release

Michter’s

Eagle Rare

1792 Ridgemont Reserve

Roughstock Montana

Hudson Baby Bourbon

Old Forester

Smooth Ambler Contradiction

Wow, it’s been a long time.
