Tour de Bourbon Day 6: Smooth Ambler Contradiction

Day 6 (my birthday!) gives us the Smooth Ambler Contradiction, a “Bourbon Whiskey” that’s 50% alcohol. Smooth Ambler Contradiction

I’m not getting much nose from this at all – pretty much just alcohol. Maybe a light floral scent, hint of vanilla?

It feels very smooth in the mouth, almost slippery, with hints of chocolate in the flavor. Unfortunately, it’s a bitter chocolate, with a harsh metal aftertaste. Christina doesn’t care for it at all, making a face and pronouncing it “alcohol-y”.

The web site tells me that Contradiction is a blend of wheated and rye bourbon. No  mention of the flavors they expect me to be picking up, but I’m pretty sure “oil drum” wasn’t one of them.

My least favorite so far. For the first time, I added Coke and ice – I usually take my whiskey neat, but this one needs something to take the edge off.

One star.
